ANCHORAGE – Just two days into the start of the 2015 Anchorage Folk Festival, crowds jumped to their feet and danced at their seats for the headliner group, The California Honeydrops. Wendy Williams Auditorium resembled Bourbon Street for moment Saturday evening as the band marched on. Fresh off the boat performing for the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, the posse of New Orleans Style musicians kept the audience jazzed with their toe tapping, heart thumping beats. Their bio includes “they don’t just play music… they throw parties!” The lively interactive band weaved through the crowd and celebrated their quickening buzzes, taps and strums as much as their fans.
The Anchorage Folk Festival is held annually each January and boasts two weeks of local and traveling music performers and dances as well as workshops for performers. The event continues with evening performances tonight starting at 7pm with The California Honeydrops’ last performance along with Melissa Mitchell, Acoustic Banana and Swing 49 just to name a few. The festival runs through Sunday, January 25th and will host a melody of musicians, dances and workshops. More bands and performers promise toe tapping fun including a Cajun Mardi Gras Ball next Saturday by Guest Artist group Cajun Country Revival.
A BIG EASY ‘Thank you!’ to Anchorage Folk Festival for providing free access to this vibrant and soul shaking event and keeping great music flowing through Alaska.
